SPRINGFIELD – Illinois unemployment rose in most metro areas for the year ending November 2025, with increases reported in Rockford and across Ogle Lee and DeKalb counties while statewide job totals declined, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Rockford metro area unemployment rate increased to 5.3 percent from 4.7 percent a year earlier, while total nonfarm jobs fell by 200. Ogle County rose to 4.5 percent from 4.1 percent, Lee County increased to 4.9 percent from 4.3 percent, and DeKalb County climbed to 4.4 percent from 3.9 percent. Statewide unemployment edged up to 4.6 percent from 4.5 percent, with Illinois losing 8,800 nonfarm jobs over the year. Chicago continued to add jobs and posted a lower unemployment rate of 4.5 percent, down from 4.8 percent.
