SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs reported record results for 2025, including more than 540,000 claims paid through the ICash program, surpassing the previous record of 330,064. The state saw growth in college savings with over 12,000 new First Steps deposits, 60,000 new Bright Start and Bright Directions accounts, and $24 billion in assets under management. Provisions of the ENABLE Act were passed to support families of people with disabilities, including permanent ABLE to Work contributions, the ABLE saver’s credit, and 529-to-ABLE rollovers. State investment earnings approached $1.5 billion, and local governments participating in the Illinois Funds investment pool earned nearly $900 million in interest income with lowered administrative fees. Frerichs said efforts to help charities increase investment returns will continue in 2026.
