DOWNERS GROVE — Nearly 9.2 million vehicles are expected to travel the Illinois Tollway system during the Thanksgiving holiday from November 26 to December 1, with the heaviest traffic expected Wednesday when more than 1.8 million vehicles are projected on the roads. Drivers can use I-PASS or Pay By Plate accounts to pay tolls, including adding rental cars or visiting family vehicles. The Tollway will suspend most temporary lane closures from noon Wednesday through 9 a.m. Monday, though construction may continue in existing work zones. A new two-lane fly-under ramp at the I-290/I-88 interchange on I-294 is expected to reduce travel times from 10 minutes to 3 minutes, and five lanes in each direction on the Central Tri-State Tollway are now open to accommodate winter traffic and ongoing construction.
