STERLING — Illinois State Police Troop 1 reported issuing 1,083 citations, 1,177 written warnings, and making 31 criminal arrests during October across Boone, Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties. Troopers cited 430 drivers for speeding, 40 for distracted driving, and 86 for occupant restraint violations, investigated 124 crashes, assisted 193 motorists, and conducted 242 commercial vehicle inspections with 17 placed out of service. Nighttime Enforcement patrols in Whiteside and Winnebago counties resulted in 118 citations and eight arrests, focusing on impaired driving and safety violations, while Occupant Restraint Enforcement patrols in Lee, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties led to 161 citations and 30 warnings for seat belt and child restraint violations. Troop 1 investigated two fatal crashes during the month.
