SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police reported continued success in combating vehicle theft, hijacking, and related violent crimes through funding from the Illinois Secretary of State’s Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council. ISP received more than $11 million in grant funding since 2023, supporting missions that between July and September 2025 recovered 280 stolen or hijacked vehicles, led to 25 related arrests, and seized 13 firearms. The operations also included 40 targeted missions, 30 K9 deployments, 34 air operations, and more than 1,200 forensic assignments statewide.
