SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department on Aging has released EngAging Illinois, a statewide plan designed to address the needs of older adults and caregivers over the next decade as the population age 65 and older continues to grow. State officials say the plan was developed with input from multiple state agencies, aging experts, community groups, and residents through public meetings held across Illinois. The plan focuses on livable communities, health across the lifespan, support for caregivers, and affordability as the number of older residents is projected to reach nearly 2.9 million by 2035. Officials say the plan also highlights disparities in life expectancy and poverty among older adults and outlines steps to improve access to housing, health care, caregiver support, and community based services, with progress overseen by a new commission and updated reports planned on a regular basis.
