SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation has opened a third round of funding through the state’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, offering about 65.6 million dollars for new charging stations across Illinois after earlier rounds supported 62 sites along interstates. The department said applications are due Feb. 13 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with awards expected in early 2026. The program requires selected sites to include at least four fast chargers able to power a typical electric vehicle in under 30 minutes and now allows projects on all U.S. routes, scenic byways and locations serving medium and heavy duty vehicles. IDOT will hold webinars today and tomorrow to guide applicants, with registration available on its webpage, and additional information is available by email through the agency.
