CHICAGO – Illinois is getting a very low rating for nursing home quality. The U.S. News & World Report ranked the state 47th out of 50 states. The report factors in health inspections, staffing, and other quality measures. Nursing home operators say most of the problem comes from Illinois’ Medicaid reimbursement rate, which they say is lower than most other states and doesn’t cover the cost of providing care. Another issue for nursing home operators was the difficulty in finding workers since COVID-19.
