Hillcrest Approves Hemstock Bridge Repairs While Planning Future Replacement

HILLCREST – The Village of Hillcrest will go forward with attempting repairs on the Hemstock Bridge before looking to replace the bridge in the future with partial federal funding.  Village President Pro Tempore Dan Potter had to convene the meeting Tuesday night after the Village was unable to assemble a quorum at the meeting last week.  Trustees chose to waive the bidding requirement and authorize the Village Engineer to proceed with the estimated $100,000 repair with the hopes of getting the bridge opened by mid-summer. They also chose to seek federal funds to replace the bridge, which could take two to three years at a cost to the village of around $600,000.

Two of the pilings that support the western side of the bridge show significant deterioration, which led to the bridge being closed to all traffic last fall.
