Illinois Law Enforcement Prepares for New Trauma-Informed Training Rules

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois law enforcement agencies are preparing to meet new training standards under Anna’s Law, which takes effect January 1. The law requires trauma-informed instruction for new recruits and adds ongoing training every three years for all officers. It focuses on improving how police respond to victims of sexual assault and abuse while reducing re-traumatization. The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board will oversee the changes and work with departments statewide to ensure compliance.
