SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Save Abandoned Babies Foundation announced on Wednesday a new campaign designed to quickly connect the public to information about the state’s baby safe haven law. DCFS said it would mail weatherproof stickers with a universal QR code to every safe haven in the state, providing discreet access to information and support through the Save Abandoned Babies Foundation website. Under the law, a parent may hand an unharmed newborn up to 30 days old to staff at a designated safe haven and walk away without fear of prosecution. In Illinois, safe havens are hospitals, emergency medical care facilities, police stations, firehouses, college and university police stations, and Illinois State Police district headquarters.
