CHICAGO – Illinois auto insurance premiums are expected to drop by 4.26 percent in 2026, even as rates nationwide rise by an average of 0.67 percent, according to a new ValuePenguin report based on insurer filings tracked by S and P Global RateWatch and analysis from Quadrant Information Services. The report says more than half of U.S. states are projected to see lower auto insurance costs this year, with Illinois ranking among the five states with the largest estimated decreases, while the national average full coverage premium is expected to be about $208 per month, or $2,496 per year, marking the smallest year over year increase since 2022 after several years of sharp price hikes.
