ROCHELLE — Rochelle District 231’s HUB after school program continues to serve local students despite lower enrollment and reduced enrichment options following budget cuts. Program Director Yazmin Nambo reported 135 students enrolled across all sites this fall, about 100 fewer than usual. The district introduced a new effort to send fifth graders to the middle school to help ease their transition to sixth grade. Ms. Nambo said staff have kept students engaged with community visits, reading projects, and lessons on biodomes while preparing to apply for a new grant due Nov. 24 that could secure the program’s future and return attendance to former levels.
