High Crude Oil Prices Push Gas Prices Higher

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose 3 cents over the past week to $4.10, the highest price recorded for this date. The August monthly average is currently $4.06, surpassing the previous August record of $3.97 set in 2022. Gasoline demand has declined as expected for this time of year, but higher crude oil prices continue to push prices at the pump higher. Crude oil remains around $80 per barrel amid continued instability in the Strait of Hormuz. The national average was $4.1044 Thursday, compared with $4.0715 a week ago, $4.0032 a month ago and $3.1337 a year ago. Gas prices were higher across the local area, with the average at $4.39 in Lee County, $4.32 in Ogle County and $4.40 in DeKalb County.
