CHICAGO — Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is signing legislation that will provide more legal protections for immigrants statewide. He penned his name to the bill yesterday at a church in Chicago. The measure ensures that immigrants can safely attend court hearings, protect their health information, join university communities, and access childcare for their families. The legislation also allows for civil legal action against law enforcement officers who knowingly violate the Illinois or U.S. Constitution. The bill goes into effect immediately.
