Former House Speaker Begins Prison Sentence On Corruption Charges

CHICAGO —  Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan reports to prison to begin his seven-and-a-half year sentence today.  Back in February, Madigan was convicted on ten of 23 counts, including bribery, conspiracy, and wire fraud.  In addition to the prison term, Madigan, the longtime Democratic leader, was ordered to pay two-and-a-half million dollars in fines.  He has until 2 p.m. this afternoon to report to prison.
