Durbin Reintroduces Bill to Require FDA Registration of Dietary Supplements

WASHINGTON – Earlier this month U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) reintroduced the Dietary Supplement Listing Act, legislation that would require manufacturers to register their products with the Food and Drug Administration. The bill would provide the FDA with information on product names, ingredients, labels, allergen statements, and health claims and make the data publicly available. The legislation responds to the growth of the supplement market from 4,000 products in 1994 to more than 100,000 today and seeks to improve consumer safety and transparency.
