Department on Aging Offering Free Help During Medicare Open Enrollment

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department on Aging is urging Medicare participants to review their coverage during the Open Enrollment Period, which runs from now through December 7. Free assistance is available through the state’s Senior Health Insurance Program to help compare health and drug plans for 2026. Officials warn that some prescription drug plan premiums have doubled and there are fewer plans available, though four now offer $0 premiums. Those who switch plans will see new coverage take effect January 1, 2026.
