DEKALB — A 44-year-old DeKalb man was charged after police said he attacked another man with a machete early Thursday in the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive. DeKalb Police said officers responded around 12:28 a.m. and found the victim with a severe injury to his right forearm. Officers and firefighters provided first aid before the victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital for treatment. Police said Joshua M. Boyer admitted to attacking the victim over money. Witnesses told officers Boyer made racial slurs during the attack and threatened to kill the victim. Police said the two men lived together and officers recovered the machete used in the incident. Boyer was taken to the DeKalb County Jail and charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, hate crime and two counts of domestic battery.
