DEKALB – DeKalb’s annual loose-leaf collection starts Monday, Oct. 27, and will continue through Friday, Dec. 5, weather permitting, with crews working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents should rake leaves into narrow rows along the back of the curb free of debris such as branches and rocks, and avoid placing leaves in the street. Collection will begin in the south half of the city and move north to Lincoln Highway, with three to four collection cycles expected; all leaves should be at the curb by 7 a.m. Dec. 1 to ensure pickup by the final cycle. The city will not collect leaves on Nov. 11, Nov. 27, or Nov. 28, and collection may be delayed by snow or other weather conditions. Residents may also use Lakeshore Recycling curbside pickup on regular garbage days if leaves are in biodegradable bags or open containers, but leaves in plastic bags will not be collected.
