DeKalb Council To Consider Flat Property Tax Rate Tonight

DEKALB — The City Council will consider a proposed property tax levy tonight that would keep DeKalb’s tax rate flat at 62 cents per $100 of equalized assessed value, the same as last year. The proposal continues a trend that has lowered the city’s rate by nearly 48 percent since 2018, supported by growth in southside developments such as the Meta Data Center, which has generated more than $46 million in property taxes since 2022. All property tax revenues would again go toward police and fire pensions, with other funds covering the remaining costs. The Finance Advisory Committee recommended the proposal, and the Council will take it up at 6 p.m. in the Yusunas Meeting Room at the DeKalb Public Library.
