DeKalb Council Approves New First Street Intersection Design

DEKALB — DeKalb City officials have approved a redesigned plan for the North First Street and Sycamore Road intersection that replaced a proposed roundabout with a signalized layout. The plan realigned lanes to improve traffic flow and safety, added a protected left-turn lane onto Fisk Avenue, and extended the northbound merge area on First Street to address a hazardous merge point. Funded mostly by a state IDOT safety grant, the project avoids impacting Clinton Rosette Middle School and Elwood House property. Council members approved of the revisions at the Monday night city council meeting.
