DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council approved a contract last week with Layne Christensen Company to repair Well No. 11 at 1685 County Farm Road with a total cost not to exceed $225,000. The well, the city’s highest-capacity source providing about 20 percent of the annual water supply, failed on December 20th of last year and was taken out of service after repeated restart attempts tripped its electrical breaker. Repairs require removing the submersible motor, pump, and column pipe. Layne, the only certified contractor in Illinois for this type of equipment, will perform the work with an initial base quote of $64,000 and additional expenses billed as needed. Funds will be reallocated from the Water Department’s existing budget to cover the project.
