DeKalb Approves Solar Farm Development at Route 38 and John Huber Parkway

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council approved Monday night a development plan and final plat for a 5-megawatt solar farm at the southwest corner of Illinois Route 38 and John Huber Parkway. The 38-acre project, leased from the property owner, will leave the existing farmhouse and buildings in place and feature native vegetation beneath the solar arrays. The solar farm is expected to generate renewable electricity for about 900 to 1,000 homes annually, operate for 25 to 30 years, and be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. Access will be from Route 38, and the site will be enclosed with a seven-foot agricultural style fence. The project includes easements for future roadway improvements and complies with city and county planning requirements.
