Byron City Council Reviews Public Works, Sewer Projects and Ordinance Changes

BYRON – The Byron City Council last week reviewed updates on public works and infrastructure projects, including progress on the new Public Works building, ongoing sewer cleaning, and the completion of season road repairs by Martin & Co. The council discussed a proposed extension of the sewer line on the south side of the river with construction expected to begin this winter, as well as a sanitary sewer collection study by Fehr Graham. Byron Mayor John Rickard noted a new Ogle County Health Department fee schedule for public health nuisance investigations that could cost municipalities $500 for an initial inspection and $350 per hour thereafter. The council also addressed the implementation of a fine schedule for administrative hearings with possible local prosecutorial control, and updates to the pay structure for the city’s administrative assistant position. Residents were reminded that leaf collection is limited to natural street fall and that burning season is underway for yard waste disposal.
