BYRON — The Byron City Council has given final approval for Prairie Materials (VCNA) to expand its sand and gravel mining operations at 8128 North Walnut Street. The plan rezones the property from Industrial to I-2 Heavy Industrial and includes setback variations on the east, north, and south sides. Company officials said the expansion will involve no blasting and maintain existing access points. Prairie Materials, which acquired Rogers Materials in May, operates nearly 100 sites across Illinois and Indiana and employs about 1,800. The agreement includes provisions for berm replacement, additional signage, and road maintenance on Barker Road.
General Manager of Aggregates with Prairie Materials, Timothy Kenny, said he appreciates working with Byron on this expansion.
“We like to be good neighbors at all of our sites, and we will continue to do so,” he said.
