BYRON – Traffic on Illinois Route 2 in Ogle County was disrupted for the second straight day due to pavement buckling caused by heat and humidity. On Tuesday, the damage occurred between Town Hall Road and Mud Creek Road north of Oregon. On Wednesday evening, a separate buckling incident forced a closure near the intersection of East Townline Road and Route 2 south of Byron, where Byron police and the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office directed traffic. The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to begin temporary repairs today, and officials warn more issues could arise with continued hot weather.
