CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a $4.25 million multistate settlement with home improvement retailer Menard Inc. over deceptive marketing of its 11 percent rebate program. The settlement resolves claims that Menards’ advertising falsely suggested customers received an immediate discount, when the offer provided only in-store merchandise credit for future purchases. The agreement requires Menards to change its advertising and rebate practices, provide clearer disclosure of terms, update its online rebate tracker, allow at least one year to submit claims, and prohibit price gouging during economic disruptions. Illinois will receive $946,633.61 as part of the multistate settlement, which also involves attorneys general from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, and South Dakota.
