Apartment Fire Causes $150,000 In Damage In DeKalb

DEKALB — A fire damaged an apartment building at 808 Ridge Drive on January 1st and caused an estimated $150,000 in damage, according to the DeKalb Fire Department. Crews were called at 7:52 p m and found heavy smoke in the building and an active fire in a water heater closet inside an apartment. The alarm was upgraded due to the number of residents in the building. Firefighters evacuated residents and searched all apartments while crews worked to contain the fire. The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes and all units cleared the scene after more than four hours. The affected apartment was heavily damaged, and several nearby units had smoke damage, while water damage was limited to the apartment below. Seven residents were displaced and are being helped by property management and the Red Cross. Two occupants were checked at the scene for smoke inhalation and declined further treatment. No injuries were reported. The fire is believed to be electrical in nature and remains under investigation.
