Rock Falls Challenging Settlement Awarded To Family Of Fallen Sterling Firefighter

STERLING –  The city of Rock Falls is challenging a settlement awarded to the family of a fallen Sterling Firefighter.  The widow of Sterling Fire Captain Garrett Ramos sued the city, its former Fire Chief and current fire chief after his death in December 2021.  Ramos died after the floor collapsed beneath him while fighting a house fire in rural Rock Falls.  Ramos’ widow was awarded more than 31-million-dollars this past November.  The city of Rock Falls wants the payout reversed, claiming they aren’t liable under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
