Judge Denies New Trial Request for Byron Man Convicted of Killing Ex-Wife and Son

OREGON – A judge Tuesday denied Duane Meyer’s request for a new trial, leaving the Byron man awaiting sentencing for the 2016 killings of his ex wife and 3 year old son. Meyer, 43, was found guilty by a jury in January of four counts of murder, two counts of aggravated arson and one count of concealing a homicide. The charges stemmed from a fire at a Byron home in October 2016 that killed his ex wife, Margaret Meyer, and their 3-year-old son, Amos. Prosecutors argued during the trial that evidence placed Meyer near the home when the fire was set and that messages and internet searches showed intent and motive. The defense argued there were no eyewitnesses and that the case relied on circumstantial evidence. The trial lasted nearly the entire month of January, with jurors deliberating for four days before reaching a verdict. Meyer requested a new trial in September. His sentencing hearing is set for December 17th.
