DEKALB – Northern Illinois University is mourning the death of former football coach Joe Novak. Novak died at the age of 81. He led the Huskies from 1996 to 2007. His most successful season was in 2003, when NIU finished 10-and-2 and reached the top ten of the BCS standings.
Novak won 4 MAC West titles and was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2022. He retired in 2007.
