Polo Reminds Residents Grass Clippings Are Prohibited on Streets

POLO — The Polo Police Department and the City of Polo Public Works Department are reminding residents and landscaping contractors that blowing or leaving grass clippings on city streets is prohibited under a local ordinance. City officials said grass clippings can create hazards for motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians and motorists. They can also clog storm drains, increase the risk of localized flooding and add to road maintenance costs. Police said they will actively enforce the ordinance, and violators can receive a $75 citation. Residents are encouraged to keep grass clippings on their lawns or dispose of them properly instead of allowing them to enter the street.
