SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County History Center has received a $15,000 grant from the Illinois Arts Council as part of a statewide effort marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, with funds supporting a new public art project tied to local agriculture and history. The project will include a recycled wind turbine turned into a shaded bench with artwork depicting the county’s agricultural past as part of a larger campus expansion at the site. Executive Director Michelle Donahoe said, “It is super exciting to be selected for that grant. It is part of the 250th anniversary of the United States.” Donahoe said the project will serve as a lasting community feature connected to local heritage and the History Center’s growing campus.
“ So one of the themes for that two 50th commemoration in the state is power of place. We are located on a former farmstead and a big part of our area’s history is agriculture,” she said.
