KIRKLAND – A Kirkland firefighter was treated and released after a shoulder injury during a house fire Tuesday evening in the 500 block of North Street, which also displaced two residents. The blaze, which started when a gazebo caught fire and spread to a deck, quickly engulfed the back of the home, prompting a Box 1 alarm and response from multiple MABAS Division 6 agencies, including Kirkland, Cherry Valley, Genoa-Kingston, Marengo, DeKalb, Monroe Center, Sycamore, Cortland, Boone District 2, Lynn Scott Rock, and Elite Ambulance. Both residents escaped without injury, and the home is considered a total loss. Kirkland Fire Chief Chad Connell warned against outdoor burning near structures, particularly as autumn brings drier conditions.
