OREGON — Firefighters from Oregon and several surrounding communities responded to a large fire Friday evening at the former Foundry building at 309 S. First Street in Oregon. Emergency personnel were called just before 5 p.m. after residents reported seeing thick, black smoke coming from the building. Oregon police officers arrived and observed heavy smoke coming from the large structure. The Oregon Fire Protection District arrived within minutes and began firefighting efforts. Due to the size of the building and conditions at the scene, several additional fire departments were called in to provide mutual aid. The fire was brought under control and most agencies were able to leave the scene by 10 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
