DeKalb Wildlife Mural Being Created for America 250 Celebration

DEKALB — Local artists have begun work on a new mural featuring wildlife found along the Kishwaukee River as part of the America 250 DeKalb celebration. Marty Gniech, Carol Anne Boecker and Tammy Judkins are creating the mural on the east wall of the pedestrian passage between the Jubilee building at 128 E. Lincoln Highway and Cornerstone DeKalb, with Jubilee Artisans coordinating the project. The mural is the latest public art project for the celebration, joining the Lincoln Highway mural, downtown luminarias and five utility box murals. The projects represent what is believed to be the city’s largest investment in public art in a single year. The America 250 celebration will conclude with performances by the NIU Concert Choir, Suzuki Strings and Dimensions Dance Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Egyptian Theatre. Admission is free.
