Carlson Scholarship Fund Established to Support Sycamore High School students

SYCAMORE – The DeKalb County Community Foundation announced the establishment of the Robert and Laura Carlson Scholarship Fund created in 2026 by Mary Grimes in honor of her parents. The fund will support graduating seniors from Sycamore High School and recognize students who demonstrate hard work, dependability, and a strong work ethic. Robert and Laura Carlson were raised during the Great Depression, and Robert later served in World War II and was held as a prisoner of war before returning home. The couple raised seven children and emphasized responsibility and perseverance as core values. Foundation officials said the scholarship reflects a lasting legacy of education and community support and noted that donations can be made through the DeKalb County Community Foundation.
