SYCAMORE – A 45-year-old semi driver who struck and killed DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina Musil while under the influence of drugs pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated DUI causing death. Nathan Sweeney entered the plea in connection to the March 2024 crash on Illinois Route 23 near Waterman. Musil was inside her parked squad car on the shoulder of the road when Sweeney’s Kenworth semi rear-ended the vehicle. The 35-year-old deputy later died at a DeKalb hospital. A five-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, Musil also served in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan. Two other DUI charges and one count of reckless homicide against Sweeney were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
