OREGON — Oregon city officials are evaluating options to replace aging downtown Christmas light decorations after staff reported the existing snowflake displays have reached the end of their usable life. Oregon City Manager Darin DeHaan said that the council has a number of options to choose from regarding size and quantity, but it wasn’t going to be inexpensive.
”Our Christmas lights, if you notice this year or you don’t notice ’em anymore, they have completely aged, and have to be replaced. So if we did 45 of them, which is each pole, and then have an additional five, just as replacements, low end, depending on how the design we pick, would be $13,500 to replace them and on the high end would be $30,500.” he said Tuesday night.
DeHaan presented alternatives such as fewer decorations, different designs, non-lighted displays, or leasing options. No formal action was taken, but council members provided input on design preferences, potential cost savings, and the importance of focusing displays in the core downtown area. City Manager DeHaan said they would want an order to be placed soon to secure lower pricing.
