SPRINGFIELD — Governor JB Pritzker has proclaimed this week as Community Risk Reduction Week in Illinois, highlighting the role of emergency response in reducing risks and protecting communities. The program uses data to identify and prioritize local hazards and directs resources to lower their occurrence and impact. Fire departments in Illinois continue to lead statewide efforts through education, prevention, and collaboration with community organizations. EMS calls make up a large portion of responses, and fire departments also address a growing number of medical emergencies. CRR efforts aim to strengthen safety, reduce injuries and deaths, and protect property across the state.
