SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis has announced her retirement from the Illinois Supreme Court, effective Jan. 29. Theis became a judge in 1983 and has served on the state’s high court since 2010, including a term as chief justice from 2022 to 2025. The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed First District Appellate Court Justice Sanjay T. Tailor to fill Justice Theis’ seat from Jan. 30, 2026 through Dec. 4, 2028.
