WHITEWATER, WI – A trial is set next year for a man charged with killing a UW-Whitewater gymnast from Illinois last year. The jury trial for Chad Richards is scheduled to start June 9th. Richards is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of Kara Welsh from Plainfield in August 2024. Prosecutors say the pair were in a relationship at the time of the incident.
