Library Security Law to Take Effect Jan. 1

SPRINGFIELD — A new law allowing library grants to fund security upgrades takes effect Jan. 1. The measure, drafted by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, lets public, school and academic libraries use grants for cameras, alarms and checkpoints. It was passed after more than 25 bomb threats targeted Illinois libraries in the past two years.
