Raoul Announces $120 Million Settlement with Monsanto Over PCB Contamination

CHICAGO — Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a $120 million settlement with Monsanto and affiliates over decades of polychlorinated biphenyl, or PCB, production and contamination in Illinois, including Chicago and surrounding cities. The agreement provides $80 million to the state and nine cities by March 2026, with additional funds possible from related legal actions, addressing environmental cleanup and public health impacts from PCBs, which were banned in 1979 but previously discharged into waterways, soil, and air.
