New Turbines Tie Up Traffic As Oversized Loads Move Toward Byron Nuclear Plant

BYRON — Traffic slowed Thursday as another oversized load for the Constellation Turbine Project moved toward the Byron nuclear station. The delivery is part of a $355 million investment at the site. Crews have already moved two generators and three turbines. Thursday’s load was on a trailer 300 feet long, 22 feet wide, and weighed 800,000 pounds. Workers had to remove overhead wires and stop lights to clear the route.  The project is expected to be completed in 2029 and will replace eight turbines and add about 80 megawatts of output.
