OREGON — The Ogle County Board heard an update Tuesday on a yearlong energy project carried out by Alpha Controls at several county buildings. The company reported cuts in electricity and natural gas use between 17 and 26 percent, depending on the building. The upgrades were paid for through utility incentives, with no county funds spent. Board members said the new lighting and control systems are already showing value and asked for future reports to track long term savings.
Members debated changes to a solar ordinance focused on landscaping rules in rural areas. After questions about nearby homes and the purpose of screening vegetation, the amendment passed 16 to 6.
The Finance Committee presented the proposed 2026 budget, which totals about 66 million dollars and shows a small projected surplus if revenues and expenses remain steady. The board approved the budget without opposition.
Members also voted to name an interim human resources director after discussing the hiring process and the stipends tied to the role.
A long range planning update outlined ongoing work to move Animal Control into the Health Department building, with plans to convert the current Animal Control space for the Veterans Assistance Commission. The board approved a resolution to continue the project. The chairman also reported progress on the courthouse roof replacement, insurance coordination, and a courthouse memorial project connected to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. A time capsule for 2076 is being considered as part of that effort.
