Rochelle Elementary District 231 Board Reviews Audit and Approves Tax Levy

ROCHELLE – The Rochelle Elementary District 231 Board of Education met Tuesday night to review the fiscal year 2025 audit, adopt the 2025 tax levy, and consider financial matters including an application for a school maintenance grant. The district received a qualified and adverse opinion on the independent auditor report due to regulatory reporting, but all fund balances were positive totaling $38.1 million, according to auditor Rebecca Powell of WIPFLI.

“The district could operate for 485 days with the total cash on hand at the end of the year.”

The board approved a tax levy of $11,910,100, up 4.99 percent from the previous year, covering educational purposes, operations, transportation, special education, and other district needs. The board also authorized the district to apply for a state matching grant of up to $50,000 to replace middle school science lab equipment.

“We’re trying to capture some of that 50,000 and offset some of the health-life safety costs that would come out of taxpayer dollars,” said Business Manager Kevin Dale
