DeKalb Council Could Approve Solar Farm at Route 38 and John Huber Parkway

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council is expected to consider a development plan and final plat Monday night for a 5-megawatt solar farm at the southwest corner of Illinois Route 38 and John Huber Parkway. The 38-acre project would leave the existing farmhouse and buildings in place and include native vegetation beneath the solar arrays. If approved, the solar farm is expected to generate enough electricity for about 900 to 1,000 homes annually, operate for 25 to 30 years, and be fully operational by late 2026. Access would be from Route 38, and the site would be enclosed with a seven-foot agricultural style fence. The plan includes easements for future roadway improvements and meets city and county planning requirements.
