BYRON — The Byron City Council approved a $60,300 proposal from Fehr Graham to conduct a comprehensive sanitary sewer collection study. City Engineer Jason Stoll said the study will examine properties near the corporate limits currently served by septic systems and evaluate bringing them into city sewer services. The project will also review downstream sewer capacity to determine if pipe upsizing is needed.
The study includes installing flow meters at manholes to measure actual wastewater flows and detect any cross-flow from groundwater or storm sewers. Fehr Graham divided the city into five wastewater watersheds and will measure flows at trunk mains, helping the city assess current capacity and plan for future housing and business expansion. An Illinois Environmental Protection Agency grant will cover approximately half of the cost. The measure was approved by the council Wednesday night.
